Cub Salute to Akela!

You may know Peter Pincombe, as the fine man he was,
We know Akela, the pack leader and friend
He showed us the 'ropes' and was true to the end
He gave his time freely, as a true Scouter does.

From rope bridges, to carvings and double canoe ride
Akela was the organizer, there was no Cub camp much finer
Than the ones he helped put together at our local Rushing River
Wherever Scouting happened there was Akela at our side

It was on a Friday, the day before all eves
We were waiting on Santa, and all the fine gifts
We were anxious for Sunday, our spirits uplift
Then we heard of Akela's parting and began to grieve.

We know now what matters, we see his true light
We remember all the years that he gave of his time
We know that our esteem of him can only climb
We hold dear all the memories in our hearts so tight.

Akela the leader that stands quite apart,
The coordinator, arranger, and teacher of children.
He directed his life with such planning precision
Our Akela…the forever young child at heart.
