Thunder Bay Area Links

Thunder Bay Area covers the communities in and around Thunder Bay, Ontario. The Thunder Bay Area extends from Nipigon in the east, to the Quitico Provincial Park boundry on hwy 11 and the town of Upsala on hwy 17 in the west. North from the U.S. border to Garden Lake, and north to Armstrong along hwy 527.
Awards Night
(Thunder Bay - Sept, 2007)    An awards banquet was held on September 29th, 2007 at the court house in Thunder Bay. On behalf of Scouts Canada, the following presentations were made: 1 Queen Venturer Award and 5 Chief Scouts Awards to youth, as well as 13 Centenial medals and 1 set of Woodbadge Two beads.    Presentations were made by The Honorable Justice John deP. Wright on behalf of the Chief Scout of Canada and by Gary Waycik, Council Executive Director of Northern Ontario Council. Several other awards were presentd to various people involved in Scouting, including a dedicated service award to Bill Towill.

   Scouting has been participating in the Rotary Christmas parade for the past five years. Thunder Bay Area Commissionerr Susan McCutcheon says "the kids love it, so we keep doing it!"

Thunder Bay Scouter Receives Silver Acorn Award
(Thunder Bay - Sept, 2007)   Tom Abthorpe, Thunder Bay, Ontario, is the recipient of Scouts Canada’s National Award, the Silver Acorn. The medal is awarded for “especially Distinguished Service to Scouting”. The award was presented on September 29th, 2007, by the Honorable Justice John deP. Wright on behalf of the Chief Scout of Canada, the Governor General of Canada. The formal ceremony held at the Courthouse in Thunder Bay.

   During the the dinner part of the awards banquet, Tom was also presented with a Golden Squirel holding a Sivler Acorn.

Silver Acorn Recipient Announced
(Council - May, 2007)
  It is my pleasure to announce that Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean Governor General and Chief Scout of Canada has awarded Tom Abthorpe of Thunder Bay the Silver Acorn Award. Tom has provided distinguished service to Scouting for over three decades and continues to be a prominent fixture in Scouting in the Thunder Bay area. The Silver Acorn is one of the highest awards a Scouter can receive. Tom will receive his award at a ceremony in Thunder Bay on September 29th. I would like to pass on congratulations from the members of the council. Congratulations on a job well done.
