We are pleased to announce that Governor General and Chief
Scout of Canada Michaëlle Jean has awarded Olean Jones of Kenora
the Silver Acorn Award. Olean's dedicated service to Scouting has spanned
three decades at all levels from local to national influence. Olean will
receive her Silver Acorn at a ceremony in London on April 28th when the
Central Council meetings. Congratulations for a job well done.

Kenora Scouter Receives Silver Acorn Award
(Kenora - Feb, 2007) Olean Jones,
Kenora, Ontario, is the recipient of Scouts Canada’s National Award, the
Silver Acorn. The medal is awarded for “especially Distinguished Service
to Scouting”. Scouter Olean is only the second Kenora resident
to receive this award, following in the footsteps of Scouter George
Nobel, Kenora, Ontario, who was awarded his Silver Acorn in the late
1970’s.

Olean Jones and Bill Somers, Manitoba Council Commissioner
The award was presented on February 22nd, 2007, in Winnipeg,
by His Honor, John Harvard, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, at
a formal ceremony held at Government House. This award recognizes 29 years
of dedicated volunteer service to youth and leaders, locally, provincially,
and nationally. Olean continues her volunteer service to Scouting
through leadership training for the region, with duties extending to provincial
and national levels

Awards Night
(Thunder Bay - Sept, 2007) An
awards banquet was held on September 29th, 2007 at the court house
in Thunder Bay. On behalf of Scouts Canada, the following presentations
were made: 1 Queen Venturer Award and 5 Chief Scouts Awards to youth,
as well as 13 Centenial medals and 1 set of Woodbadge Two beads.

Presentations were made by The Honorable Justice John
deP. Wright on behalf of the Chief Scout of Canada and by Gary
Waycik, Council Executive Director of Northern Ontario Council. Several
other awards were presentd to various people involved in Scouting, including
a dedicated service award to Bill Towill.

Silver Acorn
Recipient Announced

It is my pleasure to announce that Her Excellency the Right
Honourable Michaelle Jean Governor General and Chief Scout of Canada has
awarded Tom Abthorpe of Thunder Bay the Silver Acorn Award. Tom
has provided distinguished service to Scouting for over three decades
and continues to be a prominent fixture in Scouting in the Thunder Bay
area. The Silver Acorn is one of the highest awards a Scouter can receive. Tom
will receive his award at a ceremony in Thunder Bay on September 29th.
I would like to pass on congratulations from the members of the council.
Congratulations on a job well done.
